Further reading material
As mentioned in an earlier post there are some helpful books out there should you be like me and want to get your hands on some paper material instead of all electronic information. Here are three that I think are particularly helpful.
- The Book of Wireless: A Painless Guide to Wi-Fi and Broadband Wireless (John Ross) This bookis in its 2nd Edition and reviewers comment that the material is covered “in great depth yet remains readable” which I believe is important for anyone just coming on board the Wi-Fi bandwagon. Plus it’s paperback for easy before-bed reading should you want to stay wired in your sleep!
- Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Wi-Fi Wireless Networking (Harold Davis) makes information about Wi-Fi easy to understand by addressing not only the best way to buy equipment, but the best way to get it set up as well. One reviewer of this book commented that it was almost like having the author “at my side” with the book’s easy step-by-step instructions.
- Wireless Home Networking for Dummies (Danny Briere) You can bet with all the dummy books that there’s one for wireless networking, and aren’t we thankful (yep, I’m a personal fan of any dummy book I’ve ever accessed in dire need to understand a subject in its most basic form). This one is easy to understand in its format and it makes a perfect choice for the absolute beginner while some readers with more advanced knowledge may find it a bit too basic (but heck, that’s true with all the dummy books so I’m not going to call this one out specifically).
There you have it. Do some research and get on board. See you at the local hotspot.
